Class Info

Basics

Basics classes focus on creating a strong foundation for your yoga practice, cultivating a mind-body connection and building strength and flexibility. In addition to building strength and flexibility in your legs, you will be introduced to exercises to strengthen your core muscles. These classes will help you to open the mid section of the back and shoulders, and relieve tension in the neck and low back. Basics classes can help you to lose weight and are perfect if you are out of shape, have recently had a baby, or are recovering from a new or old injury. The seasoned yogi who wants to revisit their foundation and principles of alignment in a slower and more thoughtful way will also find this class challenging and satisfying.

Basics/Intermediate

These classes include flowing sequences such as sun salutations and build on core exercises introduced in BASICS classes. You will continue to build strength and flexibility with a focus on opening the hips and shoulders, and building upper body strength. These classes introduce basic inversions, done in a safe and supportive way. Basics/Intermediate classes accommodate most students, except those who are seriously injured or extremely out of shape. If you can hike for an hour and do one push up, you will be challenged and inspired in this class.

Mixed Level Class

This class is for anyone who is not an absolute beginner. Mixed Levels classes move faster than Basics/Intermediate classes and may include deeper backbends, arm balances, hip openers and inversions. In these classes we expect people of varying experience and offer modifications and variations for poses based upon each student’s individuality.

Intermediate/Advanced

You do NOT need an advanced practice to come to this class! If you have done some yoga before and feel comfortable in our mixed levels classes, you will be right at home in this class. In addition to standing poses and sun salutations, these classes may include twists, forward folds, inversions, hip openers, backbends, arm balances and advanced breath work.

How do I know if I am ready for the different levels?

Our descriptions give a good indication of what to expect in each class. If you still need guidance, then please discuss with one of our knowledgeable instructors.

Yoga Etiquette

For everyone’s comfort please:
  • Do not wear perfume.
  • Take shoes off before entering the yoga room.
  • Do not bring pagers or cell phones into the yoga room.

Preparing For Class

  • Arrive 10-15 minutes before class.
  • All yoga classes are sequenced in such a way that there is a warming up and cooling down period. Therefore, no-one will be able to enter a class more than 10 minutes after its scheduled start time. For the same reasons, we also encourage you to stay until the end of class.
  • Please sign in at the front desk before class.
  • Wear light comfortable clothing that allows for dynamic movement.
  • Learn from our mistakes and practice on an empty stomach. You don’t want to turn upside down after eating a burrito. If you need a light snack within 2 hours of class, a piece of fruit is good choice.
  • Make sure you drink plenty of water before class. (We have water for sale and also provide a water filter to fill up your bottles.)
  • Bring your own yoga mat. We do rent and sell yoga mats at the studio; however, for hygienic reasons it’s much nicer to have your own. (Mat rentals are intended for beginning students and our friends from out of town.)
  • Please talk to your teacher before class about any injury or illness that might affect your practice. Our classes are vigorous and challenging, however, they should never cause you pain. It will be our teacher’s pleasure to help you with alignment and find appropriate variations to help you get out of pain and heal.
